Commissioning Competition for Ècxi Chèria Trio

The Composers Guild of New Jersey announces a commissioning opportunity for New Jersey composers to write a new 5-7 minute piece for the Ècxi Chèria Trio (flute, viola, and cello) for performance during the 2023-2024 season. Any composer who currently lives, works, or studies in New Jersey may apply. One composer will be chosen jointly by CGNJ and the Ècxi Chèria Trio from among all applicants and given $1,000 on delivery of the score and parts. The commissioned composer shall grant CGNJ the unrestricted right, without royalty, to non-commercial use of a score and recording of the commissioned composition, but shall retain all other rights to the composition, including copyright and royalties.

The deadline for applications is October 15, 2022. There is no application fee. All applicants will be notified by December 1, 2022. The selected composer is expected to provide PDF copies of the music by email to CGNJ and the Ècxi Chèria Trio by March 1, 2023. CGNJ and the Ècxi Chèria Trio reserve the right not to award a commission.

To apply, send an email to exci_cheria_commission@cgnj.org with “Exci Cheria Trio” as the subject and attach the following: (1) a PDF with a brief bio that includes an explanation of how you meet the eligibility requirements and (2) two representative scores (PDF) and links to corresponding recordings (mp3), which can be on a website or deposited in a dropbox. At least one of the submitted works should show the applicant’s ability to write for the instruments in the Exci Cheria Trio, either individually or collectively. Please direct any questions to exci_cheria_commission@cgnj.org.
